Welcome to the New Mom hub on Laptops & Naptimes!
Your journey into motherhood starts here.
You’ve probably got a wish list for your pregnancy and birth – even if it’s just vague and in your head.
The last time around, I wanted to go into labour spontaneously (spoiler – I did not. Three babies & three inductions) and cope with the pain of labour without a lot of drugs. There I did succeed and ended up having my best ever birth.
The best thing you can do is plan in advance and trust yourself and your body. You’re going to be amazing.
But let me quickly say that no, I’m not a medical professional and none of the content here is intended as medical advice. If it’s medical advice you’re after, speak to your doctor or midwife.
This page includes a couple of affiliate links to products I think are great and would really help you through your birth and postpartum period. It doesn’t cost you anything extra to buy through those links but I do receive a % commission. You can find our full disclosure policy here.
Pregnancy, birth and postpartum
These are all our new mom posts – for before, during and after your birth.
Want a cream for your growing baby bump or a list of all the stuff you have to do while pregnant? We’ve got you covered.
And don’t miss the labour posts! Getting induced? Been there – 3 times.
And I found this awesome resource for busy mums to be who can’t make it to a hypnobirthing class. Self study at home and they have loads of positive feedback. I just wish I’d known about it sooner – but now you do! >>>>>
One of our most popular posts, this embarrassingly-titled and earthy post does just what it says. All your functions are more painful after you give birth but with a few tricks you can make is so much better.
Also super popular, this post is on all the things no one tells you about labour, birth and postpartum. What you and your partner need to do to prepare for the birth and what to expect during and afterwards. Read it here >>>>
Yep, pregnancy is so overwhelming and exhausting – and you’re so busy!
If you need a list of everything you have to achieve before the birth, it’s right here. From taking care of pregnancy nutrition, to your prenatal class, maternity clothes and preparing your older children – you’ll be so well prepared after reading this!
In this post I share the recipe for my go-to belly cream, made easily in your kitchen from only two ingredients. I like putting all-natural stuff on my body and this fits the bill and is cheap and easy to make. I also use it on my face and on my kids when their skin feels dry.
Prenatal class sound like a time suck? Not sure there’s much to be gained? I thought so too but a prenatal class was great preparation for my first birth and I’m SO glad I did it. Check out the benefits here. >>>
I’ve taken this prenatal class and it’s full of all the information a pregnant mama needs – without having to sit on a hard chair or take time out of work. Taking your prenatal class online at home is convenient (great when you’re huge and knackered!) and just the best preparation for you and your partner for the big day.
Read my review here for all the pros and cons and why I think it’s a no-brainer.
Are you expecting to need a labour induction – or just wondering what actually happens if you get induced? This post will give you all the details plus tips for getting through it. (NB It’s not medical advice.)
Sure, I’ve been through labour induction but I’m just one mum – so I asked a few more to tell their stories. The result is this post where seven mums who have been through inductions of labour describe how it was for them. Essential reading if you might find yourself in the same situation.
I wanted an easier, less painful birth so I decided to look into hypnobirthing. Even the basic skills I learned helped me so much and led to the easiest birth I’d ever had.
This phrase got me through stressful situations before I’d ever heard the term ‘birth affirmation’! It’s simple and it works. Get all the tips here. >>>
Postpartum is a tough time, physically and emotionally. This post is all about how you can get through it all more easily and get back to feeling like yourself again.
